Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

May 30, 2026 3 min
The Arashiyama grove is brief — a few hundred metres of path — but unforgettable, the stalks rising thirty metres and the light falling in long green shafts.
There is a sound the locals prize: the creak and rustle of the canes in wind, named one of Japan's hundred soundscapes to preserve. Arrive early; pair it with the nearby Tenryū-ji temple garden.
