The fourteenth-century Jameh Mosque crowns the Yazd skyline with the tallest minarets in Iran and a soaring tiled portal.
Step inside at midday and the heat falls away beneath the high vaults. The mihrab is a masterwork of mosaic — geometry dissolving into something close to music. Come at dusk, when the blue tile drinks the last light and the call to prayer rolls across the rooftops.
